Dr Anil Kumar Sarma is an M.Sc Chemistry (Gauhati University, 1997), M. Tech. in Energy Technology (Tezpur University, 2002) and PhD in Energy (Tezpur University, 2006) with specialization in Bioenergy. He worked 1-year (2007- 08) as a research associate in IIT Guwahati, and visiting researcher at Seikei University, Japan (2008-09) . Dr. Sarma is currently a Scientist- E at SardarSwaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy, Kapurthala, India and has published over 67 articles in Catalysis, Biomass resources, Biofuel Production and applications in IC engines, Enzyme and applications; biomass derived catalyst and applications for biofuel synthesis as in Google scholar citations. He has edited 4 books and 10 book chapters.
He has guided over 20 Master's thesis, 6 PhD thesis, and 7 postdoctoral fellows. He is a recipient of outstanding research achievement awards (OIRA 2022) from Oxford Research Awards in the field of Biofuels, Catalysis, and Applications of Biofuels in IC Engine.
Dr. Sarma is also a visiting faculty in the Centre for Energy and Environment, Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar since 2020. Recently, he has extended his research horizon to activated carbon production from waste biomass such as corn cobs, carbon conversion to graphene and uses for fuel cell electrode fabrication, super capacitor applications etc.

"Dr. Arghya Datta received his Ph.D from Thapar Institute of Technology, Patiala. He received a fellowship from Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences, GoI during his PhD to work on residence time distribution studies in reactors with recirculation. He completed his masters from Thapar Institute of Technology, Patiala, and his bachelors from Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur in Chemical Engineering.
He joined Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy, Kapurthala as a research associate in 2022 and is working in a Central Power Research Institute, GoI sanctioned project in the area of complete ash analysis of different biomass residues under the supervision of Dr. Anil Kumar Sarma.
He has published four peer reviewed SCI indexed research articles, three national and two international conference presentations. His research interest includes waste to energy, gasification, process design, reactor engineering, biomass characterization, bio-hydrogen/bio ammonia production through biomass gasification, and removal of heavy metals from aqueous sources using reactive extraction.
Dr. Gurkamal Nain Singh received his PhD from the Department of
Mechanical Engineering, Dr. B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology,
Jalandhar, Punjab. His research work focuses on Utilization of Renewable
Alternative Bio-Fuels for IC Engines and Post-Combustion engine exhaust
after-treatment technologies. He has also worked as Assistant Professor in
the Departments of Mechanical Engineering at different prestigious
institutions like Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana, National
Institute of Technology, Jalandhar and Punjab Technical University Campus.
He is also contributing as Reviewer in many reputed International
Journals. He has published around 13 research articles, including book
chapters in various International Journals and Books with Scopus, SCI
Indexing.
Mamta Pal received her Doctoral degree from the Department of Biosciences, Manipal University, Jaipur in November 2021. Her PhD research work focused on the Microbial fuel cell technology, Dye decolorization, Analysis of biofilm and its development on the electrode surface and biological depolymerization of biomass. She served as an assistant development manager in a joint project of Jal Jeevan Mission and IIT Delhi at IIT.
She joined the electrochemical division as a research associate in August 2022 under the supervision of Dr. Anil Kumar Sarma (Scientist E). Her research interests are electrohydrogenesis, Microbial electrolysis and integrated approach of bio-hydrogen generation.
Bhautik obtained his B.Tech degree in Agricultural Engineering from Navasari Agricultural University, Navasari (Guj.) and M.Tech degree in Renewable Energy from MPUAT, Udaipur (Raj.). He worked on the pyrolysis and co-pyrolysis of biomass residues to develop a biofuel supply chain in his master’s thesis at MPUAT under the supervision of Dr. N. L. Panwar.
Presently, he is working as a Research Fellow under the supervision of Dr. Anil Kumar Sarma in the Chemical Conversion Division, SSS-NIBE, Kapurthala, and is working in Central Power Research Institute, Government of India, sanctioned project in the area of complete ash analysis of different biomass residues. He has pursuing his PhD degree from the Centre for Energy and Environment, National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar. Bhautik enjoys playing badminton, traveling, and cooking.
Yogesh obtained his B.Sc degree from Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak (Haryana) and M.sc degree from Central University of Haryana. He has worked on the Isolation, Screening and Bio-chemical characterization of the bacterial strain isolated from hot springs of Western Himachal Pradesh in his master’s thesis at SSS-NIBE under the supervision of Dr. Sachin Kumar.
He is currently working as a Junior Research Fellow in a CPRI project on “Composition analysis of different types of pellets/briquettes received from unknown sources” from the Punjab and Haryana region. He enjoys playing badminton, basketball, travelling and reading newspaper.
Akash Deep Singh obtained his B.Tech. degree in Civil Engineering and M.Tech. degree in Renewable Energy. During his master's project, he worked on a Life-cycle assessment of a sewage sludge-based large-scale biogas plant. He had industrial experience as an Assistant Engineer in civil construction and maintenance-related works. He is also a trained Rooftop Solar Grid Engineer. Akash Deep Singh joined Electrochemical Division (ECD) at SSS-NIBE as Research Fellow under Dr. Anil Kumar Sarma's supervision. His research focuses on synthesizing carbon materials from biomass for different applications.
