Dr. Sachin Kumar, an alumnus of IIT Roorkee and HBTU, Kanpur, has an experience in the field of biomass and bioenergy. His primary research interest is in integrated biorefinery including biogas, biohydrogen, bioethanol, lignin valorization for value-added products. He has published more than 75 papers in peer reviewed journals, book chapters and papers in conference proceedings and 9 edited books. He has one granted US patent and 3 filed Indian patents.
His achievements include recipient of 2016 ASM-IUSSTF Indo-US Research Professorship and selected as Bioenergy-Awards for Cutting Edge Research (B-ACER) Fellow 2016 by DBT and IUSSTF.
He has also secured the place among the top 2% researchers in the world based on Scopus reported by Stanford University, USA.

Dr. Shivika Sharma has completed her M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D in Biotechnology from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. In her Ph.D, she has worked on “Purification, characterization and application(s) of a solvent-tolerant lipase of a Bacillus licheniformis strain SCD11501. She has been awarded with National Post Doctorate Fellowship (2016-2018) and worked as Principle Investigator of project entitled “Qualitative analysis of secondary metabolites produced by psychrophilic microorganism(s) isolated from Chhota Sigri glaciar in Central University of Himachal Pradesh.
She has also worked as Assistant Professor in Department of Biotechnology in Arni University from 2014-2016 and in DAV University Jalandhar from 2019-2021.
She has been awarded with DST Women Scientist (DST WOS-B) scheme and currently working as Principle Investigator in a project entitled “Exploration of lignocellulolytic enzymes producing thermophiles from hot-springs of Western-Himalayan region for biorefinery applications”. She has joined Biochemical Conversion Division at SSS-NIBE under the mentorship of Dr. Sachin Kumar and is presently working on production of thermophilic lignocellulolytic enzymes for the production of biofuels. She has published more than 20 articles in journals of repute and a patent.
She has obtained her Ph.D degree (Microbiology) from Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, Punjab (India). Dr. Hans has also worked as a Visiting Scientist at Institute of Physics of São Carlos (IFSC), University of São Paulo, São Carlos, São Paulo (Brazil). During her Ph.D.
She has worked on process development and optimization of simultaneous saccharification and co-fermentation of lignocellulosic biomass using pentose utilizing thermo-tolerant yeast strain for enhanced 2G ethanol production, and utilization of residual metabolites/ fractions for generation of value-added products such as biogas, xylitol, vanillin, syringic acid and syringaldehyde.
She has more than 6 years of research experience in fermentation technology, anaerobic digestion, bioprocess optimization, biomass pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis and integrated biorefinery of biomass for bioethanol, biogas, biohythane and xylitol production. She has 1 filed patent and 12 published articles in peer reviewed journals, books and scientific magazines. She also has research interests and experience in lignin biorefinery into valuable chemicals such as vanillin, syringic acid and syringaldehyde.
Dr. Raman Rao received his Doctoral degree in Biotechnology from NIT Jalandhar. His Ph.D.research work was focused on process development for the fermentative hydrogen production,process parameter optimization and kinetic modelling of dark and photo fermentative microbialsystem.
He has been awarded with Bioenergy promotion fellowship from 2014 to 2015,supported by MNRE, Govt. of India, Junior and Senior reearch fellowship from 2015 to 2020supported by Ministry of Education, Govt. of India and Ph.D. fellowship in Bioenergy(selected) by Sau Paulo research foundation, Brazil.
His area of research includes organicwaste/ biomass valorization for energy and resource recovery, bioprocess engineering,wastewater treatment technology and bioreactor desigining. His hobbies include badminton,table tennis, travelling etc
Gaganpreet Kaur has obtained her Integrated Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Microbiology from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, in 2016. Her Master’s work was focused on the evaluation of heavy metal-tolerant bacterial isolates for effluent treatment. She worked as a Research Assistant in the UAY project entitled “Development of an effluent treatment plant for hand tool industry” at IIT Ropar from 2017 to 2020.
Presently, she is working as a Senior Research Fellow under the supervision of Dr Sachin Kumar in the Biochemical Conversion Division, SSS-NIBE, Kapurthala, in 2021 and pursuing her PhD degree from the Department of Biotechnology, National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar. She has been assigned an in-house project to enrich thermophilic consortium for enhanced biogas/ biomethane production.
Nisha Yadav obtained her B.Sc. in Life Sciences and M.Sc. in Environmental Sciencesfrom University of Delhi and Central University of Haryana, respectively. She has worked on Sequestration of Reactive Black 5 Dye using Bacterial Exopolysaccharides and live biomass during her Master’s dissertation. She has obtained her Bachelor of Education from Government College of Education, Narnaul, Haryana.
Nisha Yadav joined Biochemical Conversion Division (BCD) at SSS-NIBE as Junior Research Fellow and upgraded to Senior Research Fellow under the supervision of Dr. Sachin Kumar. She is presently working on Biogas production and its upgradation. She is pursuing her PhD from Dr. BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar under the joint supervision of Prof. M.K. Jha and Dr. Sachin Kumar.
