R & D PLAN FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS

 

Establishment of state-of-the-art-research laboratory facilities:

In accordance with the recommendations of the R & D committee, the scientists are preparing the status papers on different Renewable Energy Technology. On the basis of the status papers, the research gaps in different areas will be identified and the specific Research activities will be decided accordingly. However, some of the research activities are as under:

MISSION

1. A data base generation on fuel related characteristics of biomass and other fuels and application of biomass for specific technologies.>

2. Biomass management i.e. harvesting, collecting, transportation, storage and pre-conditioning studies.

3. Technology development for the production of bio-ethanol using lingo-cellulosic materials, especially the agricultural crop residues and its application.

4. Technologies development relating to thermal conversion of biomass such as gasifier designing/fabrication, combustion of biomass and power generation, biomass pyrolysis and the performance evaluation of the systems and economic appraisal.

5. Technology development for production of Bio-oil/lignoil, bio-crude production and integrated bio-refinery development.

6. Establishment of testing centre for Chullas for domestic applications, Biomass Thermal Gasifiers and other renewable energy devices.

7. Generation of bio-gas from animal excreta and agricultural wastes, purification of the Bio-gas, its bottling and commercial application of both carbon dioxide and Methane.

8. Hydrogen generation from biomass resources (using producer gas and bio-gas both generated from biomass).

9. Study on the growth characteristics of different varieties of oil bearing plants such as Jatropha Curcus and others.

10. Development of Bio-diesel production parameters using non-edible and waste oils, different types of catalyst, feed stocks and the use of bio-diesel as fuel in diesel engines.

12. Demonstration of various renewable energy devices such as biomass gasifier, briquetting plant, biogas-power plant, etc. in the campus and meeting 100% power requirement of the Institute using renewable energy devices.

13. Design, development and installation of biogas & solar based 5 TR Hybrid Vapor Absorption Refrigeration (HVAR) systems for heating and cooling applications.

14. Demonstration of solar thermal & photovoltaic systems.

Energy Plantation:

1. 10,000 Jatropha plants are being planted over 3 hectares of land for structural studies.

2. 200 Bamboo plants are being planted along with boundary wall of the Institute as energy plants.

3. 3,000 forestry and oil bearing plants have been planted along with boundary wall of the Institute.
