Testing and characterization of biomass feedstocks (including agricultural residue briquette/ pellet)

SSS-NIBE has well equipped biomass characterization lab facility to carry out research on the various pathways of biomass to biofuels and chemicals. The main objective of setting up this facility is to maintain the database of various properties of different biomass available in the country and provide the necessary support to researchers, industry and other stakeholders working in this field.

Biomass testing and characterization laboratory has all the advanced equipment and modern R&D facility to carry out proximate, ultimate, thermal degradation, heating value measurement and other analysis required for biomass characterization.

Biomass Cookstove Testing and Certification Centre

The main objective of Biomass Cookstove Test Centre is to carry out biomass cookstove testing and provide certification to the stakeholders for their developed cookstove models based on BIS standards. Research is also going on in the field of design, development and testing of improved/advance biomass cookstoves for the mitigation of energy and environment crisis.

Testing Facility Available

SSS-NIBE Biomass Cookstove Testing and Certification Centre has all the advanced instruments to carry out testing as per the BIS/international standards. The main facilities consist of high capacity cookstove testing hood operated on an aerodynamic principle, Multi-component gas analyzer (VA-3000/VS-3000, M/S HORIBA, Japan) for measuring the exhaust gas composition coming out from the biomass burning, Stack Monitoring System for total particulate matter (TPM) measurement, Bomb Calorimeter for the measurement of heating value of biomass, Moisture analyzer, Hot air oven, Hot wire anemometer, Digital thermocouple, Microbalance, High capacity weighing balance (upto 100 kg), and other miscellaneous testing apparatus required to carry out the testing of different cookstove models.
