Dr Anil Kumar Sarma is an M.Sc Chemistry (Gauhati University, 1997), M. Tech. in Energy Technology (Tezpur University, 2002) and PhD in Energy (Tezpur University, 2006) with specialization in Bioenergy. He worked 1-year (2007- 08) as a research associate in IIT Guwahati, and visiting researcher at Seikei University, Japan (2008-09) . Dr. Sarma is currently a Scientist- E at SardarSwaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy, Kapurthala, India and has published over 67 articles in Catalysis, Biomass resources, Biofuel Production and applications in IC engines, Enzyme and applications; biomass derived catalyst and applications for biofuel synthesis as in Google scholar citations. He has edited 4 books and 10 book chapters.
He has guided over 20 Master's thesis, 6 PhD thesis, and 7 postdoctoral fellows. He is a recipient of outstanding research achievement awards (OIRA 2022) from Oxford Research Awards in the field of Biofuels, Catalysis, and Applications of Biofuels in IC Engine.
Dr. Sarma is also a visiting faculty in the Centre for Energy and Environment, Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar since 2020. Recently, he has extended his research horizon to activated carbon production from waste biomass such as corn cobs, carbon conversion to graphene and uses for fuel cell electrode fabrication, super capacitor applications etc.
I. Research Area:
Bio-Energy and Biorefinery (biofuel: production, characterization and uses; biomass characterization; waste biomass to value added catalyst and materials, integrated process development from waste biomass to energy via different conversion routes)
Bhautik obtained his B.Tech degree in Agricultural Engineering from Navasari Agricultural University, Navasari (Guj.) and M.Tech degree in Renewable Energy from MPUAT, Udaipur (Raj.). He worked on the pyrolysis and co-pyrolysis of biomass residues to develop a biofuel supply chain in his master’s thesis at MPUAT under the supervision of Dr. N. L. Panwar.
Presently, he is working as a Research Fellow under the supervision of Dr. Anil Kumar Sarma in the Chemical Conversion Division, SSS-NIBE, Kapurthala, and is working in Central Power Research Institute, Government of India, sanctioned project in the area of complete ash analysis of different biomass residues. He has pursuing his PhD degree from the Centre for Energy and Environment, National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar. Bhautik enjoys playing badminton, traveling, and cooking.
Akash Deep Singh obtained his B.Tech. degree in Civil Engineering and M.Tech. degree in Renewable Energy. During his master's project, he worked on a Life-cycle assessment of a sewage sludge-based large-scale biogas plant. He had industrial experience as an Assistant Engineer in civil construction and maintenance-related works. He is also a trained Rooftop Solar Grid Engineer. Akash Deep Singh joined Electrochemical Division (ECD) at SSS-NIBE as Research Fellow under Dr. Anil Kumar Sarma's supervision. His research focuses on synthesizing carbon materials from biomass for different applications.
