Dr. Vandit Vijay

Biography

Dr. Vandit Vijay did his PhD from IIT Delhi and is currently working as a Scientist at SSS-NIBE. His research focus is on biomass utilization through different conversion pathways for energy sufficiency in rural areas, and carbon neutrality. He has experience in the field of biogas and biodiesel production from different feedstocks and their utilization for various energy applications including biofuel based IC Engines, biomass resource assessment, and sustainability analysis of bioenergy systems.

He has more than 15 authored/co-authored publications. Prior to joining PhD he worked at the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.

Dr. Gurkamal Nain Singh

Research Associate

Dr. Gurkamal Nain Singh received his PhD from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, Punjab. His research work focuses on Utilization of Bio-Fuels for IC Engines and Post-Combustion engine exhaust after-treatment technologies. He has also worked as Assistant Professor in the Departments of Mechanical Engineering at different prestigious institutions like Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana, National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, and Punjab Technical University Campus.

He is also contributing as Reviewer in many reputed International Journals. He has published around 13 research articles, including book chapters in various International Journals and Books with Scopus, SCI Indexing.




Dr. Banafsha Ahmed

Research Associate

In SSS-NIBE, Banafsha’s research focuses on biomass supply chain management, estimation of carbon footprints and GHG emission savings from various bio-energy systems using soft-tool techniques, biomass/bio-energy pricing and supply estimation by using GCAM and other simulation techniques, and design of bio-energy atlas of India. Her career interests lie in mitigating climate change using scientific study and implementations, and policy development for achieving sustainable development goals. She received her PhD degree from IIT Roorkee in 2023 and has a research background on bio-energy production from organic waste, and design of waste management systems for urban and rural areas. She has an additional interest in writing and narrating fictional stories, and playing cricket.

Rakesh Godara

Junior Research Fellow

Rakesh pursued an interdisciplinary career following his interest. Having completed bachelor's in civil engineering, he switched to Renewable Energy in his master's at Centre for Energy and Environment, MNIT, Jaipur. The focus of his master's thesis was on sustainable buildings under the guidance of Prof. Tarush Chandra.

He is working in thermochemical conversion division, SSS-NIBE, on "Thermal analysis of anaerobic digestion" under the joint supervision of Dr. Nikhil Gakkhar and Dr. Vandit Vijay. He has been a part of INDO-GERMAN Summer Winter School (2018-2019). Expertise in software Ansys, Matlab, SimaPro PVSyS, EQuest, AutoCAD. He enjoys trekking, exploring and binge-watching.




Mr. Avinash Bharti

Junior Research Fellow

Avinash Bharti obtained his B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering, and M.Tech degree in Renewable Energy from Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur, Rajasthan. During his master's project, he worked on GIS Mapping of Wheat Straw Residue for Bioenergy Production in a rural area of Rajasthan, India Under the supervision of Dr. Vivekanand.

Presently, he is working as a Research Fellow under the supervision of Dr. Vandit Vijay in the Biomass and Energy Management Division, SSS-NIBE, Kapurthala, Punjab. His research areas are GIS mapping, biomass assessment, and supply chain management. Apart from this, he also enjoys traveling to new places. He loves to play badminton and cricket.




Mr. Gaurav Dimri

Junior Research Fellow

Gaurav has acquired his M.Sc degree from School of Environment Science & Natural Resources, Doon University, Dehradun. During his M.Sc his research project was “Integrating Remote Sensing and Geospatial Analysis for Landslide Susceptibility Mapping in the Darma-Byans Valley, Uttarakhand” under the supervision of Dr. Suneet Naithani. He did his internship from Wildlife Institute of India on the analysis of national level environment and wildlife issues raised in parliament during question hour under the supervision of Dr. K. Ramesh. He completed his graduation from H.N.B Garhwal University, Srinagar.

Currently, he is working as a Junior Research Fellow at SSS NIBE Biomass & Energy Management Division. His research work is focused on developing crop yield estimation model, burnt area mapping, biomass assessment and potential mapping using Remote Sensing, GIS & GEE. He is also working in integrating modern technologies in bioenergy sector to achieve SDGs, under the supervision of Dr. Vandit Vijay.
